In the line of fire

can a person seriously be accident prone... for i have a feeling my bad times have begun...

three days of death...

first a guy falls on my car and shatters the windshield... i give a job interview in which the interviewer asks me nothing yet hopes to judge me... i then take the other car... and even that falls prey to an accident.... all this in a day

the next morning when i take a rickshaw to my institute ... the rickshaw also falls prey to an accident... in the evening when i try to return... it takes me three hours to get home... a fifteen minute drive takes three hours...

and then the today i go normally... but then find out that most of my appointments have been canceled ... i waste most of my day at the institute ... and reach home late....

sometimes... everything goes against you... no matter what you do... life is troublesome for you...

lets see what i have for tommorrow

ASP.net vs PHP (development time)

a blogger posted on my previous post regarding which of the two languages take lesser time to develop webpages... here primarily it depends on your skill level.

Most PHP programmers have a good collection of php code snippets.... alternatively they can fetch it online.... thus giving them the advantage of quicker development.
If you are an ASP.net developer and have been coding for a couple of years you effectively are able to create a similar database of components...

Thus you can't really compare the two languages in terms of development speed.

There are many other myths, PHP lovers believe....

will be clarifying that in my next post...

PHP mysql

I am a core ASP.net programmer.... frankly don't enjoy unstructured, unorganized code in PHP. plus i believe ASP.net earns you far more than php does. True as most php coders claim, you can get many php projects. But i would prefer one project for a thousand bucks than doing three in php for three hundred each....

as a habit, i tend to criticize what i like and appreciate stuff of things i hate.... thus i decided to accept the good parts of mysql + php....

as an asp.net coder... even though Microsoft .net IDE does enable you to have a better interface with connectivity to databases... still the code is ugly... has many steps involved....

comparatively php code is shorter and in that way better....

Configuring Dreamweaver to work with php

what!... dreamweaver works with PHP... well what i meant to say.... what that dreamweaver usually shows php code as a code block in the design window.... and dreamweaver can actually show a processed result instead....

how?

interesting.... i shud be paid for doing this... but since its a requirement and i feel most people would want it.... i guess ill have to share the knowledge without the treat at the cafe...

  • well go to site -> manage sites
  • select new... site
  • choose the advanced tab...
  • here give a name for your site... anything to make you remember you are refering to your apache server.... (yes dreamweaver supports other servers as well)
  • local root folder is your default root folder... (in the case of those using easyphp you will choose program files\easyphp\www\)
  • go to testing server and select server model as php mysql.... access as local/network and set the testing folder to the same default root folder
  • url prefix will be localhost or 127.0.0.1
Select ok and you should be ready to rock!

ill be getting to the sql server configuration shortly.... till then... wait and enjoy server debuging...

New virus floating around

I turned on my system today to find my system running dead slow.... decided to investigate.... and first thing i found out was that the regedit was disabled...

thus i ran Lavasoft Adaware.... and walla.... many new registry entries...
"
S-1-5-21-796845957-507921405-725345543-1003\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\policies\system "DisableTaskMgr"
S-1-5-21-796845957-507921405-725345543-1003\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\policies\system "DisableRegistryTools"
S-1-5-18\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\policies\system "DisableTaskMgr"
S-1-5-18\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\policies\system "DisableRegistryTools"
.DEFAULT\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\policies\system "DisableTaskMgr"
.DEFAULT\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\policies\system "DisableRegistryTools"
software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\winlogon "Shell"
"
removed those.... instead of helping ... my explorer.exe started crashing... no support from microsoft on that... dispite the fact that I have licensed windows.... decided to scan my system... with macafee... no success .... finally i traced down the problem to the the antivirus exe itself.... had become unstable for some reason....

uninstalled mcafee and now im on Norton....

system seems better now...

still a little slow....

lets see the progress i have tommorrow

the task of blogging

Time and again I am faced with the problem when i am asked to write a blog, first by microsoft and now by a course instructor. That is when i begin to realize my lack of skills in the creativity zone.

I know for a fact that I am really good if not exceptional in algorithms, logic etc.... but don't really know how people can actually think of wasting their time blogging or socializing online.

Speaking of creativity I lack both in writing itself and other forms of art. It is not that I am unable to generate ideas.... ideas do come to me.... but i am more of an orator than a writer.....

anyway since this is a task... and i believe the best i can do is share my programming experience... get ready to be bored with wierd ideas from a computer geek....

Pakistan Tour

I went for a Pakistan tour this vacation. Went to Lahore, Sialkot, Sarghoda, Faisalabad and Khanpur in Punjab. I then proceeded to the Northern Areas of Pakistan.

Pakistan is the most beautiful country I have seen yet tourism revenue is limited. The reason as I see it is:

Pakistan is not being projected properly in the international arena.
Pakistan apparently posses a threat as it is generally believed to be the Hub of terrorist activities. (Apparently the probability that you get affected by that is very little).
Pakistan does not have a proper road network to the heavens in it.
Pakistan does not implement safety measures to secure rocks from falling from mountains.
I request the Pakistan government and Mr. Musharaff to take due action in this regard.

Another day....... Another chance to succeed...
